The 2026 GAIP Insurance Innovation Competition – Taiwan Round was jointly organized by the Department of Risk Management and Insurance at National Chengchi University (NCCU), Nanyang Technological University (NTU Singapore), and GAIP, with Nan Shan Life Insurance serving as the exclusive supporting partner.

Under the theme of “Insurance Innovation,” the competition invited university and college students from across Taiwan to form teams and develop innovative solutions addressing emerging risks, evolving customer needs, and future developments in the insurance industry. Following the preliminary proposal review, 12 teams advanced to the Taiwan Final.

To strengthen the connection between students’ proposals and real-world industry practices, Nan Shan Life introduced a mentorship program, inviting 12 senior professionals from the life and non-life insurance sectors to serve as mentors for the participating teams. Through professional guidance and the sharing of practical experience, the mentors helped students deepen their market insights, refine their proposals, and enhance the feasibility of their innovative insurance solutions. The program also provided students with valuable early exposure to industry perspectives, helping bridge the gap between academic learning and professional practice.

At the Taiwan Final, the 12 finalist teams presented their proposals, offering innovative ideas across a wide range of areas, including digital innovation, risk management, and emerging protection needs. Their presentations demonstrated the younger generation’s insights into the future development of the insurance industry and their capacity for innovative thinking. Nan Shan mentors also attended the final to support the teams and witness the transformation of students’ creative ideas into concrete and feasible proposals.

The final featured a distinguished panel of judges, including Hui-Yu Chen, Chairman of the Life Insurance Association of the Republic of China; Wan-Hsiang Chen, Chairman of the Non-Life Insurance Association of the Republic of China; and Yu-Hui Chang, Chairman of the Taiwan Residential Earthquake Insurance Fund. The proposals were evaluated based on criteria including industry relevance, innovative application, and feasibility.

Following intense competition and deliberation by the judging panel, the Gold Award was presented to a team from the Department of Finance at National Taiwan University for its proposal, “An Innovative Proposal for Issuing Catastrophe Bonds through Web3 Tokenization in Response to Taiwan’s Frequent Earthquakes.”

The winning team will represent Taiwan at the GAIP Insurance Innovation Competition Global Final in Singapore this August, where it will compete with teams representing countries and regions across the Asia-Pacific for the global championship. Through this international platform, students will have the opportunity to further explore new possibilities for the future of the insurance industry.
